What a weekend. TERRIFYING, in that the Executive Branch would choose to wield its new and considerable power to slice away at everything we know to define us as a nation. HEARTENING, in that a courageous federal judge would say NO by applying the rule of law. AWESOME that she made that decision RIGHT HERE IN CADMAN PLAZA while hundreds of us gathered in a matter of minutes to support the ACLU and, more importantly, the refugees whose safety, well-being and futures hung in the balance (above, my view from the crowd, two seconds before my battery died). And GLORIOUS to see that we are ready to mobilize. Yup, this is what democracy looks like. On to the next round…

Former prosecutor Marc Fliedner files paperwork to run for Brooklyn DA

A Brooklyn-based civil rights attorney and former Assistant District Attorney (ADA) Marc Fliedner announced on Wednesday that he has filed the paperwork with the New York Board of Elections and is expecting to run for Kings County District Attorney in the September Democratic Primary.

“It’s not a formal announcement yet. We’ll do that in a few weeks,” Fliedner told the Brooklyn Eagle. “But I’ve been speaking to folks in neighborhoods throughout Brooklyn and, quite frankly, they are uninspired by the other candidates and they know that I have a very different take.”
